Julie Anne Robinson is an award-winning television and film director and executive producer with more than two decades of experience shaping bold, character-driven storytelling at scale. Based in Los Angeles, she is known for combining cinematic ambition with emotional precision and for moving seamlessly between prestige drama and sharp comedy. She is a proud member of the Directors Guild of America, Television Academy and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

As an executive producer, Julie Anne operates at the intersection of vision and execution. She shapes projects from early development through final delivery, working closely with writers, directors, and network partners to refine tone and align creative ambition with production reality.

Julie Anne plays a crucial role in building the worlds her projects inhabit. She defines narrative direction while shaping the emotional atmosphere and visual language that make a series feel fully realized. Her oversight ensures that story, performance, and scale move in step across every phase of production.

Advocate
Beyond her work in film and television, Julie Anne Robinson is committed to advocacy that reflects her core values. She believes storytelling has the power to foster empathy, expand perspective, and illuminate lived experiences that are too often overlooked.
 
Julie is the creator of I Hear You, a philanthropic global campaign in partnership with Oxfam America, Condé Nast Entertainment, and Vanity Fair, born from her personal response to rising anti-refugee rhetoric and dedicated to amplifying voices often reduced to statistics. The series features professional actors including Margot Robbie, John Cho, and Gael García Bernal, among others, reading real, first-person accounts from refugees around the world.​

Known for her articulate, grounded style, Julie brings a rare, behind-the-camera perspective to conversations about leadership, visual storytelling, and the realities of working at scale in premium television and film.
 
She has delivered masterclasses and participated in industry panels including the Irish Film & Television Academy Masterclass Series, Paleyfest, BAFTAs and conversations hosted by NewFilmmakers Los Angeles, where she speaks candidly about launching global series, directing high-stakes drama, and navigating creative collaboration with showrunners, cinematographers, and actors.
Julie Anne directed and executive produced the pilot of Netflix’s Bridgerton, collaborating alongside Shonda Rhimes to launch what would become a global franchise. The first season reached 82 million households in its first 28 days, redefining the period drama for a modern audience and cementing the series as a cultural landmark. Julie Anne is a well-established pilot director, establishing tone, building worlds, and generating momentum.

Julie Anne began her career in London theatre before transitioning into television, where she earned early recognition in the UK for series such as Blackpool and the BBC film Coming Down the Mountain, both of which garnered major award nominations. That foundation, rooted in character, rhythm, and emotional truth, continues to shape her work today.

Her directing credits span some of the most influential series of the last two decades, including Doctor Who, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Weeds, Orange Is the New Black, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place, Grace and Frankie, Parks and Recreation, Masters of Sex, and The Hunting Wives. She has had seven pilots go to series, a rare distinction that reflects both creative instinct and trusted leadership.
In features, Julie Anne directed The Last Song, demonstrating equal fluency in intimate drama and large-scale commercial storytelling.
